MultiVersus Most Broken & Overpowered Characters

While MultiVersus is a fantastic game and is doing incredibly well, it's not perfect, and it certainly has some overpowered characters.

MultiVersus, the platform brawler sensation that has been gathering what seems like the entirety of Steam, is finally and fully out in a "beta" format. Now, anyone can download the game and fight against others online as their favorite characters from all the different IPs held by Warner Brothers. Whether it's as the 50-foot tall Iron Giant or as world-renowned basketball player Lebron James, they're both playable

But, how are all the MultiVersus characters, compared to each other? Which ones seem to have an absurdly wide toolkit at their disposal and which ones are just straight-up unfair? Well, let's take a look.

First up is Harley Quinn, a beloved DC villainess who has easily become just as recognizable and perhaps even more beloved than the Joker in recent years. And, in MultiVersus, Harley is an absolute beast. She has technical tools such as her Jerk-In-The-Box and Stuffie Bat, tons of passive burn damage thanks to her Confetti mechanic, and just general fantastic normals and combo potential. The fact that people have already found a 0 to KO combo for her should say it all.

Her Aerial Pummeler is a menace, her Flying Kicks is one of the best approaches in the game, and her Batter Up special is one of the easiest vertical punishes. Her only real downside is the fact that she's an Assassin so she can die relatively easily, but still, Harley is easily among the best characters in the game at the moment

Steven Universe is absolutely the most slept-on character in MultiVersus at the moment, by far. He's the least played, the least understood, and yet may have the most unique mechanics out of anyone. Just to name a few things Steven can do for his teammate in a 2v2:

And that's not all. Steven also has Peach's float mechanic from the Smash Bros games (not to compare the two too heavily) as well as his whole Rose's Gaze Debuff mechanic. The only thing this kid struggles with is getting people to actually play him.

Tom and Jerry are by far the most creative fighting game character out there at the moment. The sheer fact that almost all of their attacks involve Tom chasing or attempting to attack Jerry in some way, and their opponent just happens to be in the middle of them so they get hit, is just so neat.

But, even disregarding all that, Tom and Jerry are just one of the best characters in MultiVersus. That said, they're also the most technical, requiring anyone who controls them to be acutely aware of where Jerry is at all times, what he's doing, and how Tom should respond. But, in the hands of a pro, these two are basically unstoppable.

Finn is seeing a lot of play right now and there are three main reasons for that. One, as of writing this, Finn is currently part of the free character rotation, so he's super accessible. Two, everyone loves Adventure Time! And the last reason is simply that Finn is an incredibly good character. All of his sword attacks have absurdly large hitboxes (that honestly need to be fixed), which means they automatically beat out most other attacks any other character can dish out, his Shop mechanic is both creative and helpful, and he's an Assassin so he racks up damage crazy fast.

Additionally, thanks to his ability to move while using his Charge Attacks, Finn is also one of the only characters in the game who can reliably hit fully-charged swings. And of course, it has to be mentioned that his Up+Special, Backpack Attack, is every bit as absurd as people are saying it is.

Moving on to the Last Son of Krypton, Superman. Superman is as powerful as one would expect one of the most broken superheroes would be. For one, Superman is the second heaviest character in the game behind the Iron Giant, so he's incredibly difficult to Ring Out. Two, he has a ton of Armored Attacks that allow him to finish his swing uninterrupted, despite being hit during the wind-up.

And three, he just has a lot of tools to use in any situation. Superman has Ice Breath for projectiles, Heat Vision for spacing, a command grab in the form of his Ten-Ton Tackle for air control, and a directional throw with his Go Long Aerial Up+Special for low percentage kill confirm.

Originally, this entry was going to compress both Shaggy and Taz into one, but now that Taz has had his best tool nerfed into the ground (and Bugs' nerf is coming next), Shaggy has taken center stage. In any case, Shaggy is sort of the "baseline" character of MultiVersus that the developers seemed to have used as a foundation to build off of with all the other fighters. He's pretty simple, has reliable and predictable normals, and has his Rage mechanic.

But, it's because he's so simple that Shaggy is so insanely good for both beginners and MultiVersus pros. There aren't any real weird mechanics or odd hitboxes to get used to with Shaggy, his moves all come out consistently, land where they look like they should, and usually beat out most other moves in terms of reach. Of course, his Side+Special, Chiller Instinct Kick, has to be mentioned, especially the charged version. But, even without the kick, Shaggy is just an all-around powerhouse.

And finally, let's cap things off with MultiVersus's own original character, Reindog! Reindog, first of all, is straight-up adorable, but he's also just a beast of a fighter. As a Support Class, Reindog has a ton of different tools to help his allies such as his Love Leash, Power Crystal, and even his own body that allies can throw using his Flying Floof Special.

While Reindog is a Support, his playstyle is much more similar to the two Mage Class characters, as he is able to keep his distance and pepper the opponents with projectiles and status effects but also send them flying off-screen with Normal Attacks if they happen to get close. The only real downside is that he struggles a lot more in 1v1 (as he should) than he does in Team games.

MultiVersus is available on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
