Metroid Dread developer MercurySteam announced its next game, codenamed "Project Iron"-Nintendo Life

"A third-person action role-playing game set in a dark fantasy world"

If you have been wondering about the Metroid Fear, which is now available on Nintendo Switch by the developer MercurySteam, it seems to have a brand new game.

The Spanish studio is working with Digital Bros and its publishing arm, 505 Games, to develop a new game code-named "Project Iron." It is described as a brand new third-person action role-playing game set in a dark fantasy world.

The title will receive "Multi-platform Global Release", and the initial development investment of the project amounts to 27 million Euros. At the same time, "the intellectual property rights of the game are jointly owned by Digital Bros. and MercurySteam through the joint ventures MSE and DB SL established under Spanish law."

Here is what the co-CEO of Digital Bros thought of this announcement:

"We are very happy to work with the MercurySteam team, a proven studio that has created many extraordinary IPs over the years-including the popular game Metroid Fear recently launched in collaboration with Nintendo. With MercurySteam’s creative vision and With talent and extensive experience of 505 Games, gamers can look forward to high-quality, engaging and engaging video games."

Recently, MercurySteam also released a series of patches for Metroid Fear on Nintendo Switch.

When he did not repay the loan to Tom Nook, Liam liked to report the latest Nintendo news and appreciate his video game library. His favorite Nintendo character used to be a dog who can play guitar, but now he prefers to hang out with the cat Judd.

Wait a minute, this is not Metroid Fear 2: The Lost Level, this is a bunch of BULL ****!

Oh, great! Another dark fantasy RPG!

It sounds...original. Although as good as Dread, MercurySteam is not known for its originality.

@NWC Are you aware that they have taken your money? Gamestop sold you shares purchased from Nintendo. Your return will have almost zero impact on Mercury.

However, @Reiflo must stick to his principles. And it will affect them, because this person and others will choose to personally boycott this garbage studio.

@BloodNinja I can understand the boycott of future products, but I have already purchased the game, I think you can at least finish the game and appreciate the full amount of work the developers put into the game. After years of blood and sweat, I somehow doubt that those who work hard will want everyone to refund or stop the game permanently.

Treat your employees like people first

@NWC's very strange position, because it won't affect anyone involved at all. Although I think, whatever makes you feel like a better person.

I hope they will not be like Factor 5/ OG Rare/ Silicone Knights in the end, like a developer who should stick to Nintendo. Maybe the situation in the retro studio is OK, can Nintendo’s management improve the studio?

Either way, I am sure/hope that they will come back to participate in the next 2D Metroid game. At the same time, we will see what this "Project Iron" is and whether it will appear on Switch.

@locky-mavo This is a 3D action RPG. We are at least 2 years away from release, maybe longer. I bet it will appear on Switch 2 in 2024-2026.

wait? What did I miss? About mercury vapor employees?

Yes, I wish them luck, 505 is a joke.

Oh, Nintendo’s best to acquire Mercurysteam as soon as possible, otherwise it may never happen in the future

I am still in the mindset of being a Mercury Steam professional. It is not worth the fuss that a person is excluded from credits because they have not been in the project long enough. Working long hours in the studio is the way to complete ambitious projects. This should not be the standard, but I think it is inevitable to some extent.

If there was this level of transparency at the time, what would we think of Metroid Prime and Retro Studios? They had to practice continuously for a year to produce that kind of beauty. Japanese developers lived in the office during the final months of "Super Metroid" development, but we played these games with a clear conscience.

Standards can and probably should be changed, but praise for Mercury Steam's tepid flaws and affect the success of a great game is simply absurd to me.

@The-Chosen-one Some developers who only participated in the project for a limited time did not earn points, and they complained online. Although these terms were in the policy from the beginning, young players on the Internet who didn't know how the contract and policy worked thought it was the worst thing since the Holocaust.

@The-Chosen-one Apparently, they beat up some employees who were connected with zippers.

Last year, Nordisk acquired MercurySteam for 40%. I hope this is a new game for any franchise owned by Nordisk.

Code STEAM 2

Oh, what's going on, haha! Man, I have been involved in large IT projects for many years. The company gets credit, I get paid 😂

@SirKif If their work is in the game, their name should be in the credits.

@HotGoomba carefully read the third person It's Other M 2: Revenge of the Sith!

@Reiflo To be honest, when I borrowed it, I hated this game, so this sentiment was wasted on me.

@SirKif People behave more holy than you, and it seems easier than doing any research.

Good luck to them. After making the third best Metroid game ever, they deserve it.

@DiggleDog No, if they signed the contract with full knowledge, if they only completed the equivalent of "5 minutes of work" with the minimum contribution, they would not be recognized.

If they didn’t care at the time, because like most people: they were more concerned about getting paid than being a footnote on a wall of words, then they shouldn’t suddenly care now, unless they want to profit from "gaming companies are evil". the trend of.

Ah yes, we definitely need more dark fantasy action role-playing games

Isn’t it an understatement of the carnage of everything in order to allow someone to exercise their rights as a consumer? I hate that basic empathy is considered a weakness. Want to know where all this comes from.

The sequel codenamed STEAM

@nessisonett Yes, but how much did Holla cost? Subject: Not interested in another dark fantasy role-playing game, but I hope Mercury has good luck in their current and future projects!

@nessisonett Maybe waiting to watch the game before calling it non-original? Is there too much demand these days?

In other news, Mercury Steam has several teams, so they can still work with Nintendo to develop new Metroid.

The game was very good (not very good but very good) period.

For those who complained and tried to boycott the game, I did buy 3 copies. The first was the standard version that did not arrive on the day of release. Because my copy did not appear, I entered the eShop and obtained it digitally ( Namely copy #2) A few days ago, I found the special edition (ie copy #3) at almost retail price. So yes, continue to do what you are doing with double morale, because I believe most of you Both idolize the games that have been/owned are made under the same/if not the worst conditions. I will be happy to buy more copies of my favorite games 🙂

@Meteoroid Being non-original is not always a bad thing, it's just a small thing. I personally don't expect it, because the dark fantasy setting is universal for me.

@主I am willing! That game was great, I don't care what others say!

@EriXz No, don't worship games with worse conditions. Stop supporting those terrible studios, and never bought any games from them since. At the end of the day, no matter how much I like it, I can give up any franchise rights. I feel very good about myself.

@Frailbay30 By default, Dark Fantasy is not unoriginal, it is just a type. There are some methods that can be completed originally or through non-original methods. It's like saying you can't make first-person shooters non-universal. General purpose is a choice, or lack of talent/inspiration/foresight, it has nothing to do with type.

@Meteoroid I didn't even criticize them. It's hard to be truly original; it's even harder when you try to make AAA and don't want it to fail. This is why I say that being non-original is not always a bad thing. You can not be original, but you can still make good things. Just look at the Marvel movie.

Hope this is not another dark medieval European environment. I would love to explore something different from the default settings pursued by many studios.

@Vexx234 It is shocking that there are so few ideas in games today. Because of the high cost of making them, everyone is afraid to do something different.

Mercury Steam should be allowed to remake "Super Metroid". Use the same style as Metroid Dread. I don't think Super Metroid itself needs a remake. It's really cool to have one. Because it is the one that has not been remade. They can do a zero task, so that half of the game is a remake of the original game, and the second half is a brand new game. The zero-task surprise is amazing. Imagine defeating your mother's brain and fleeing the earth, only to find that you still have a full half of the game to defeat. How cool would that be?

The remake of Super Metroid will never replace the original. The original version still exists and can still be played well. The remake is just a compliment to the original version, added to it, to provide us with more new Metroid gameplay

Because Mercury Steam is indeed the best Metroid ever, with fear. So I fully believe that they are the only ones who can satisfactorily remake Super Metroid, which is still the best Metroid Castlevania ever made before Dread is released. Mercury Steam is the only one who can surpass it. So why not let them remake it?

I'm not sure if ME can make a good game by itself, their own output has always been very moderate. But let's see how it goes i guess

Eh. At this point, I'm tired of the dark fantasies in the media, which are totally overdone.

The interesting thing is that I will pay attention to what they are doing.

@BrintaPap Why? 505 is just a publisher, their game selection is quite extensive and very good.

@RobotReptile Welcome to the entertainment industry.

This is very common, such as looking for WGA and 33%. Maybe this will provide more insight. In addition to accepting credit or not, it can also be a contract agreement.

To this day, we have not seen coffee runners in any movie titles.

@Reiflo @NWC What did you write?

I can't find that post! Or am I missing something?

I wish them all the best. I also have Dread in my backlog. For whatever reason, the gaming industry still cannot get rid of the harsh working conditions, which is what I call startup time.

@SirKif Wow, that's great.

@Gwynbleidd Payday 2 Crash and The Walking Dead Crash, of course most of the games they released were just released, they did not participate in the production or other decisions.

They really messed up on payday. Make the game pay to play, just like any other game, a $60 game. They promise that there will never be in-app purchases (IAP from now on). After not even fixing many bugs in Payday 2, they stopped supporting it in favor of Payday 3. 505/starbreeze was almost bankrupt due to the chaos of the walking dead game called Overkills. Then in order to save money to the company, they released a large number of IAPs on Payday 2. Breached their promise.

The following is an excerpt from Forbes:

“Before the game’s release in 2013, the developer Overkill stated that microtransactions would not be part of the game. At that time, producer Almir Listo warned doubters, writing: “We have made it clear that Payday 2 will have no microtransactions (if you don’t think so, it’s shameful!)"

A month later, (now the former) chief designer David Goldfarb assured gamers that there will be no microtransactions in Payday 2 in the future.

"No," he told GameSpot at the time. "No. God, I hope not. Never. No."

But times are changing, and a new black market update was revealed in the 10-day "CrimeFest" special event Overkill. This update introduces a "safe" for the end of the game rewards, and introduces a new currency "drill" to open them. The drill bit costs money, and once you use the drill bit on the safe, you will get a random weapon skin.

A very bad twist here is that safes not only replace other free rewards, they can sometimes unlock the skins of weapons that you must buy as DLC. "

Does this mean that Dread has no chance to get DLC?

@Scrubicius NWC basically said "They are not good to the employees, thank goodness, I returned Metroid Dread before buying!" When they didn't realize that MercurySteam and Nintendo still got their money, they just got money from GameStop .

Speaking of this, @NWC, you do realize that you can only get a second-hand copy of Dread without giving MercurySteam any money, right?

Call it now. Project Iron's real name is Iron.

@LiamRomK No, but I don't think it has any impact on any DLC. In any case, this is not a type of game suitable for DLC, I think it is not worth the time.

@BloodNinja lol Well, I think you and I agree that, except for a few games, almost every switch exclusively launched by Big N is disappointing. Perhaps because I am now in my 30s, I have become more cynical, painful and bored with more than 90% of the games released today. I find it difficult to get into many of them, and often find myself in retro most of the time.

In any case, I only played the Metroid Dread demo, but I was really attracted by its impressive amateur cutscenes, the cookie-cutter Portal Robot, and the overall lack of spirit and soul. Even small things, such as how the enemy evaporates after death, seem a little uncertain. I still like this demo, but it has almost no Nintendo's spark, creativity, and magic.

I mean, if you enter the game looking for reasons not to like it, then it's up to you.

@Vexx234 Your ironic summary is effective, but boring, and does not motivate me to continue to meet your needs, even though it is valuable.

@arrmixer Have you read the source? There are almost no bad working conditions. They are part-timers on another project, are required to transfer to Dread in the final stage and have no credit (according to their contract), and feel that they are not prioritized like full-time employees-why are they. There is no "tightening" or poor working conditions.

@Arawn93 You must have made a lot of assumptions

@DiggleDog Who defines "work" and "in the game"? The contract they signed clearly stated these terms. No one even thinks that their work should be calculated according to MercurySteam's definition, it's just unfair.

In the movie, the importance of "work" is defined by the union. There is no such thing in the game, the whole thing is arbitrary. This is entirely due to the angry clickbait practices of the media.

I am surprised that it takes so little time to generate so many controversies:

Since the first news article, other information has been zero. No more interviews. No one called for a boycott. There are no strikes or lawsuits. But some Nintendolife reviewers are 100% sure that Mercury is the devil, and they will never, never buy products from them. If that's all, the boycott list of these people must be long enough to orbit the earth.

@nimnio Maybe most of the commenters here are teenagers who have never worked before, so they are not used to being bound by contracts.

@Devlind Maybe, but we don't even need to go there and say overreaction. Only a ray of controversy and angry addicts are looking for a solution. Some people claim that working conditions are poor and that we are blowing up the entire company from orbit.

@Spiders I am referring to the entire gaming industry, not specifically for the Mercury incident. But I understand what you mean.

@GoshJosh is good for you, I support this attitude, but I can’t help but think that for every studio with the same practice, we know that there are some that we don’t do, so I support my comment, I "I'm sure you favorite Some of the games in it are likely to have been made under unfavorable conditions

@NeonPizza Yes, we totally agree, be there!

@RobotReptile I mainly agree with you and think that people miss a lot of these points. However, I think people think that other games are polished to near perfection by the staff, rather than greedy cooperation. I do think that the CEO or CFO says to solve this problem within six months, otherwise you will not get paid because I will look bad, one says to solve this problem within six months, and those who work over it Work because they don't want to look bad. Similarly, people shouldn’t complain too much when they get something like cyberpunk, but complain when things are delayed, and complain when the staff is overworked.

Finally, these companies must provide food for everyone. I think if they postpone cyberpunk, they will have to start firing people. Nonetheless, all these problems can be solved by better project managers who know how to set development costs and time.

@RobotReptile It sounds like you are saying "this is the way it is", but this is not good enough.

Fast-paced and stressful work is one thing, but it sounds like the atmosphere in the company is very bad and poorly managed-they punish employees who are not performing well, transfer them to other departments, cut their salaries, and micromanage them because of public opposition Punish people for problems, ignore the COVID situation when fear and panic are unprecedentedly high, and fail to take adequate measures to protect their workers.

I know you like games and don't want to think about these things. Most of us support bad businesses in some way (for example, if you eat chocolate, then you are likely to support some real evil). However, it is strange to just say "***** happens" and make it acceptable. Become a "career" game contributed by some very talented people. Don't be a "career" in the "*****" industry, because from a management point of view, their work sounds terrible.

@Fiskern Uh... no, I am not. Those who wept at first admitted that they admitted that it was in the contract when they signed the contract. This concludes the "debate". Why do you think they can’t take any legal action, but cry about it on social media?

They signed the agreement completely voluntarily, and did not see a footnote as big as a transaction in the letter of credit as they do now, because they are more concerned about the salary of the performance.

The obvious use of the "gaming companies are evil" trend to seek sympathy is obvious.

I hope developers can develop some good cyberpunk or steampunk games. We are overwhelmed by dark fantasy.

@DiggleDog If I write a line of code for the game, I should at least get paid for it.

But this does not prove that I am on par with the other 99% of the staff.

This is a courtesy, not an obligation.

Unless it is based on Berserk, I don't care haha.

Guess this means that we may not see any DLC or modern Galactic Castlevania features, such as random generator mode. It’s time to wait for the modding community to figure it out!

@locky-mavo Factor 5 failed not because they left Nintendo (Lair had QoL issues, yes, but it was a good game in general, especially after patching), but because after Lair, They canceled a project (not their decision) because it was canceled, destroying their bottom line. If you want to say that leaving Nintendo created that scene, that's great. Maybe Nintendo didn't like Lair's tone, but Sony liked it after the release. There is also a problem with people not getting paid, although I think it is ultimately directly related to their financial situation. If the cancelled game is on the shelves, I think they will be fine. There is a video on Youtube about them crashing somewhere, and I'm pretty sure this is what happened.

What do you mean by OG Rare? They were acquired by Microsoft.

@Kilroy The point I want to say is that these three companies will be better when they work with Nintendo. The two of them are gone for their own reasons, and I know "Wha Happun" very well. One can be said to be the shell of its previous self, or at least, it is not a company that cooperated with Nintendo.

@HotGoomba True But at the time I bought a new one, when I found out how bad the game was and what the company did, I took back the game and got my money back

@Reiflo Maybe, but I took a position that some people were afraid to do. I learned my lesson and don’t buy from them again. It’s really good. I took the money back, so I guess it’s both for both parties. Win-win, so i won at the end haha

@UglyCasanova is even more strange for your comment thank you

@BloodNinja agrees that their company is rubbish, and I refuse to buy any company that treats employees so badly

@Ogbert Shame because I disagree that this game is not a good game and the company hates their employees.. You support that kind of workplace is good for you

@Scrubicius I deleted it because many people were offended by my comments on bad games. I am old because of that mess

@NWC Hey, don't give in. Make people feel offended. You have the right not to like something. I certainly won't praise everything about Nintendo.

Sticking to your own principles is also good for you. It seems that most people are offended because Meteoroid is their favorite game and don't want it to have any negative effects. I have seen it many times in other gamers and bad studios.

I like the appearance of "Raiders on Broken Planet", I think it started with Metroid. Unfortunately, it became a "space lord" before entering any platform of my choice, and then became a freemium, which was fatal to me. In other words, the role, the environment, everything seems to be doing well. If they sell the game correctly on the Switch, I will buy it.

@NWC Oh good! I agree, but opinions will not become facts

I think this is a public misunderstanding of how people gain trust in the media world.

I don't mind a good third-person action RPG set in a dark fantasy world, as long as it is not another soul clone.

No one mentioned Castlevania, although it fits this description very well. Well. I am very interested in what they are doing, and if it is about to appear on the Switch, so much the better. I hope it will... This company will be the perfect partner with Nintendo.

@Scrubicius Oh, but in fact the game is a badass.. Thanks lol

@Fangleman32 Thank you buddy.. As a person my age, I really don’t care what some crying people think...Playing games on this site takes longer than most people. If a game is a badass, I will tell it what it is. This is not just a game. It is a mercury vapor company. They treat their employees as garbage, and some fans will praise their company anyway. . I guess they like to see people suffer

@NWC Or in fact your taste is bad.

You know that it is okay to have your own opinion, there is no need to change it.

This is the problem with everything we do today. "Look at the country"😬

@NWC again I want to know how Mercury Stream treats their employees (not workers) like garbage.

Or maybe you mistake Mercury Stream for Activision?
