That towing 0-60 MPH acceleration is mind-boggling!

How does the new Ford F-150 Lightning compare to a new Ram 2500 HD Cummins Diesel when towing 10,000 lbs? We wanted to find out what kind of efficiency these trucks return, and what 0-60 MPH acceleration they post with a heavy trailer.

We are pulling a Cat 242D skid-steer that weighs about 7,000 lbs. It’s on our 3,000 lbs Iron Bull trailer (for a total of 10K pounds).

The Ram is equipped with a 6.7-liter Cummins turbo-diesel with 370 horsepower and 850 lb-ft of torque. The Lightning is powered by two electric motors for a total of 580 horsepower and 775 lb-ft of torque.

The Ram returned an impressive 11.1 MPG results after towing the trailer on our 25-mile route. It will tow this trailer over 300 miles with no issues. The Lightning returned 1.0 mile/kWh economy. This translates to a maximum towing range of 131 miles when loaded with this 10,000 lbs trailer.

The Ram’s diesel pulled the trailer to 60 MPH in 18.9 seconds. The Lightning did the same 0-60 MPH acceleration in a mind-boggling 10.6 seconds. This is an insane real-world acceleration when you consider that it’s pulling its maximum load as well.
