Abbey's Road: The Christmas Tradition of Decoration Dilemma

Ah, the sacred ceremony of Christmas decoration.

In the past, my brother and I would gather around the old steamer at the foot of our parents' bed, expecting my mother to unlock the door. I can even smell it now-a little pine, some cinnamon, eucalyptus, and some ancient dust. We happily resurrected the relics of the past: those paper-plate angels scribbled in crayon hieroglyphs; cinnamon cookie decorations ("Oh no, the gingerbread man lost a leg! Someone took a hot glue gun!") , The red and green windows are close to each other, and I am sure it contains BPA.

Mother will hand us a treasure one by one, and tell us where to put it: the rocking horse music box on the top of the bookcase, the German Christmas pyramid next to it, the small village "snow" with cotton wool and the mirror in the pond, hidden in it In a safe corner under the secretary's desk.

When we are finished, all our bits and pieces fill the house with a festive atmosphere, even if we don’t have a Christmas tree yet (in the past, people sometimes waited until-gasp!-mid-December) we could feel the spirit of the season Come down on our comfortable little house.

Fast forward three decades. I now have my own family and home. This is the first week of December, and according to Facebook, most of my friends have decorated their halls and trimmed their trees.

Then why do I feel like a slacker?

Maybe my heart is too small by two sizes. Maybe I was frightened by all the picture-perfect Instagram scrolls, which remind me of my own humble decorative collection. Perhaps, behind all of this, it is the subconscious mind that reminds me that I must collect everything I go out within a month. Is this really worth the trouble?

No matter what the reason, I have been procrastinating on the way to the Christmas decoration scene. I decided to explain the lack of motivation through psychological analysis of myself and others in order to find the root of the problem.

Let us first break down the types of Christmas decorators:

Extra: 20 inflatable lawn decorations were placed in the front yard the day after Thanksgiving. Decorate the Christmas tree the day after Halloween. It took a whole year to buy gifts, but it is likely to buy more. House is similar to Clark Griswold's. Wearing Christmas hats to work. Own a Christmas sweater every day of every month.

Pinterest: According to all the latest shades of Better Homes & Gardens, the color coordinated mantle decoration. White lights, carefully curated collection of decorations, hand-made tree skirts from Etsy. Send out Christmas cards with photogenic family members at least three weeks before Christmas. Owns a label manufacturer for the production of handbags containing off-season decorations.

A for Effort: Just take out something and put it in place. Yes, that's great.

Children: The window is close. Pine cone reindeer. Colored lights. School pictures with notched teeth and lots of glittering decorations. A new place must be found for the game kitchen to make room for the Christmas tree.

Minimalism: The tree is decorated with a beam of white light and some twine. Green wreath on the front door. Brown kraft paper, white ribbon (organic).

...Last but not least...

Busy: Wait, it's December? ! ?

you! I did it! Determined my Christmas decoration style (busy with children around and a handful of A for hard work), I can breathe more easily, because I know there are more than three weeks before the big day, if I can drag myself to the basement once a day Resurrection (insert precious decorations here), we will celebrate before Christmas Eve.

Even better, I can let my children do this.

I think this has always been my mother's game.
