Metroid Dread developers MercurySteam have partnered with Milan-based publisher Digital Bros to develop and publish the tentatively titled Project Iron. The third-person action RPG will launch globally for both consoles and PC. MercurySteam and Digital Bros will co-own the new IP.

According to press releases from both MercurySteam and Digital Bros, the new game will be a third-person action RPG set in a dark fantasy world. Also co-publishing the game is Digital Bros’ global publishing division 505 Games, which previously handled the PC release of Death Stranding. Notably, Project Iron‘s initial development investment is reportedly around 27 million Euros.

MercurySteam released Metroid Dread in October 2021. As we highlighted in our official review, Metroid Dread received high praise for its difficult yet satisfying gameplay. However, the studio also recently caught flak for not crediting everyone who worked on the game.

The studio also previously worked on Metroid: Samus Returns and the Castlevania: Lords of Shadow series. Originally founded in 2002, the Madrid-based developer has collaborated and co-developed games with companies such as Konami and Nintendo. Before remaking Metroid: Samus Returns, the studio had initially pitched a remake of Metroid: Fusion.

Project Iron is in development for PC and consoles, and will launch globally. There is currently no confirmed release date or price.
